4 Myths To Marketing Your Dental Practice

Myths of dental marketingBecause of the consistent need for tooth care, dentistry is a very resilient and stable business model. However, there are many misconceptions surrounding the practice of dentistry, and even dentists themselves have been buying into these myths. In order for you to run the most successful practice you possibly can, it’s important that we clear up these myths so that you have a clearer picture of what you can do to improve your practice.

Below are 4 common myths about dentistry, often believed by dentists themselves:

MYTH #1: You Don’t Need To Be Affordable

False. You 100% need to become more affordable. More and more dentists these days are advertising deals and coupons for cheaper dentistry. In order to stay competitive, you do need to become affordable. By using the correct technology, you can practice dentistry more quickly, meaning you can provide cheaper dentistry to more patients while staying just as profitable as now.

MYTH #2: Everyone Will Need To Visit The Dentist, So We will Have Unlimited Patients.

The majority of Americans don’t have a lot of disposable income. In 2013, around 60% of entire households and families were being supported on an income of less than $50,000 a year. Yes, everyone will eventually need to visit the dentist, but not everyone is going to be able to afford the dentist, nor will they come in unless there are major problems already exist. This ties in with the first myth. The more affordable you are, the more patients will be able to come and see you.

MYTH #3: Your Clinical Skills Are The Most Important Part Of Your Practice

Perhaps the most important part of your dental practice is the patient experience. Your ability to communicate and connect with your patients is more important to them than your clinical skills. The patient experience is what attracts your patients and encourages them to recommend you to others.

MYTH #4: It’s Tacky To Sell Yourself & Your Skills

Dentistry is an incredibly undervalued service. The fact is, very few people understand the importance of their own dental health and they need to be reminded. As a dentist, it’s not only beneficial for you to sell your services, but it’s beneficial for your patients as well. You’re providing a service that they need, but they may require an occasional reminder that they need it.
