Protecting Your Dental Office Against Fraud

Stop dental fraudIt’s tough for any business owner to accept that they could be susceptible to fraud. However, according to a statistic discovered by dental fraud expert, David Harris, your dental practice has more than a 50% chance of falling victim to dental fraud. If you factor in the number of fraud incidents that aren’t reported, this number could be even higher!

HOW TO PROTECT YOUR DENTAL PRACTICE AGAINST FRAUD

While the statistics are scary, there are ways that you can protect yourself and your dental practice from fraud. These tips include:

  • The installation of security cameras in your dental office. Place the cameras around all the key areas of your office.
  • Always perform background checks on new employees in your office. Avoid hiring any employees with red flags.
  • Have a system in place to prevent allowing the same employee to write office checks, process payments, and/or be in charge of reconciliations. Make sure you have a system of checks and balances to keep your employees honest.
  • Be aware of your finances and where all money is coming from and going to. A good idea would be to set up regular times to meet with your CPA and go over your practice’s finances. Make sure everything is matching up.
  • Lastly, trust your gut instincts. If you feel something isn’t right, follow through.

Taking these steps before there’s a problem can decrease the odds of any dishonesty in the future. If you’d like more tips on protecting your dental practice, or for any of your dental marketing needs, please call Pro Dental Designs today!
