Dentists Interacting With Dental Patients On Facebook

Facebook advertising and management for dentistsFacebook can be a great way for you to interact on a personal level with your friends and family. Additionally, it can be a great way for you to interact with your patients and improve the success of your practice. The trick is in knowing how to keep these two things separate, or the results could be disastrous.

WHY SEPARATE BUSINESS & PLEASURE?

It’s so important for your dental practice to have a Facebook fan page. This way, you can interact with patients, offer specials, conduct surveys, make any dental practice announcements, or link to your blogs or any other dental health articles. However, this fan page needs to be kept separate from your personal profile page. Your profile page is where you post status updates, pictures of your family, and interact with friends.

Below are just a few of the reasons why you shouldn’t add your patients to your personal profile page. They can gain access to:

  • Your personal problems and issues
  • Your political views
  • Your religious preferences
  • Any online disagreements you may be having
  • Personal photos of you and your family
  • Any recent personal purchases you may have made

For obvious reasons, it’s not a good idea for patients to have access to this information. People can get very passionate about issues that mean a lot to them, and if you don’t happen to agree, you may lose patients and business. If you do happen to receive any friend requests from patients, it’s best to decline the request and direct them to your dental practice’s fan page instead.
