Creating a Successful Dental Newsletter

An ipad laying on a desk opened up to a newsletter with a cup of coffee and pastry next to it.

If you currently send out patient newsletters to your dental patients, you know it can be difficult to write interesting and engaging articles! If you don’t currently send out patient newsletters, you should consider doing so.

In addition to having a professional, up-to-date website, a newsletter is another great tool for marketing your dental practice.

Essential Components of a Successful Dental Newsletter

  • An interesting subject-line: Most people don’t open every email they receive. Instead, they scan the subject lines for an email that sounds interesting. If your subject line isn’t compelling, your patients may scroll right past it.
  • Short articles: Many of us have short attention spans when it comes to sifting through our email boxes. Smaller articles will be more appealing, and your patients are more likely to read the whole article if it’s shorter. We recommend aiming for articles around 150 words.
  • A few relevant photos: Including a picture with each article helps you communicate your message better and grab your patients' attention. Please note that you cannot use somebody else’s copyrighted photo, meaning it’s a bad idea to use a picture you found on a Google Image search. You need to either use a photo you took yourself, download a free stock picture, or purchase a stock picture.
  • Printed and available in the office: Lastly, print a few copies of the newsletter for the reception desk or the waiting room table for your patients to read while they’re waiting.

Like many dentists, you may struggle to find the time to research, write, and put together a newsletter every month. At Pro Dental Designs, we can take over your practice's marketing efforts, helping you put together a quality website and an effective dental newsletter.
