The Importance of Content on Your Dental Website

a diagram of how content affects a website

In the past, search engine optimization (SEO) and content creation have been seen as separate entities. One person would create the content for your website and another (usually an SEO provider) would optimize the content for search engines.

The process would consist of the dentist writing generic content found somewhere else on the internet. Then you would purchase some backlinks and hire a company to adjust the titles of the pages and insert certain keywords in the pages. Then you would magically rank number one on the first page of search engines!

Unfortunately, it’s a much more complicated story these days. The algorithms used by Google are more demanding and the increased competition requires more determination and creativity than ever before.

Without Quality Content, SEO is Pointless

Keywords and backlinks are still important parts of Google’s algorithm, but they aren’t the only factors or even the most important ones. At the end of the day, high-quality content is the most important part of your dental practice’s successful SEO campaign.

There are many ways to make sure the content you’re providing is valuable. You need to make sure your content is relevant, interesting, and includes a natural selection of targeted keywords.

Signs of Poor Engagement

  • Your content is not inspiring – If your content is predictable, too generic, or filled with complicated dental jargon, you’ll have a difficult time keeping your patients or potential patients engaged.
  • Your design is not friendly to all types of devices – It’s important that your website is able to be seen and displayed over an array of devices including desktop computers, tablets, and cell phones.
  • Your webpage design isn’t visually appealing – Make sure your website is easy to read, simple in design, and aim to have custom photography. Stock photos can be useful, but custom photos make your patients feel a bond with you.
  • Your content is confusing and not user-friendly – Keep paragraphs short and simple, and make sure to include headings and bullet points. This is much more engaging than a wall of text.

The goal of quality content is not only to provide successful SEO but also to convert digital visitors to your website into real patients at your dental practice. This means impressing them the second they visit your site!
