Multi-Location Dental Practices – What You Should Know

Multi-location dental practicesIf you’re considering a multi-location dental practice, it can be tricky to know exactly when an expansion is warranted. Each practice is unique, which means there isn’t really a one-size-fits-all answer to the question of whether you should continue running just one practice, or if you should expand. It takes a specific skill set to succeed in a multi-located business model.

WHAT TO CONSIDER WHEN EXPANDING YOUR DENTAL PRACTICE

Below are three important things to consider before deciding that a multi-location practice is the right choice for you:

  • Competition – Opening another dental practice doesn’t mean that your patients will be split evenly between the two practices. It’s important to have a marketing plan in place for each individual practice and to keep the name and logo the same between each location.
  • Associates – You have two options when opening a multi-location practice – you can either choose to practice dentistry less, as you won’t have the time to run multiple locations and see the same number of patients you’re used to seeing. Or you can choose to delegate. Make sure you’ll be able to have office administration with a vested interest in the success of your practice, at each location.
  • Population & Growth Potential – Lastly, it’s important to keep in mind the location of the majority of your patients in relation to your office location. You need to do research regarding the current population and the growth estimates for the location you’re considering.
